Little Lavender Sachets

I adore the scent of lavender … it’s so clean and fresh. I keep little lavender sachets in all my drawers, and I just love the way my clothes smell when I pull them out to wear.

I’ve been making lavender sachets … using French Grosso lavender – it lasts for ages and the fragrance is particularly intense – from reclaimed scraps of fabric,  fragments of old garments, some vintage remnants, all mostly leftover from bigger projects.

I’ve made a variety of different shapes – squares, rectangles, hearts and circles …

You can see them in my Etsy store.

I’ve embellished them all … some with buttons …

Some with ribbon roses ….

Some with rosettes of ribbon, offset with a pretty button ….

Some with twists of yarn …

And even the odd pompom …

They make such wonderful little presents – if you can bear to give them away – perfect for small gifts between friends, or thank-you gifts for hostesses or teachers or anyone who has done something special for you recently.

Would you keep yours? Or who would you give it to?

And, lest we forget … all subscribers to my newsletter are currently receiving a coupon for free shipping on everything to everywhere in my Etsy shop right now … up until 15th December (last posting date in UK). Get there quick … international posting dates for Christmas fall into next week!

Summer Bags

I’ve been on the make again …

“Summer Blues” patchwork totes … from left to right …

1) Log cabin patchwork tote, worked in recycled denim from an old pair of kids jeans with white vintage linen, and  the central panel from an old tablecloth. Lined with a blue and white check cotton mens shirt.

2) Diamond patchwork tote, worked from an old green and cream check mens shirt and denim jeans for the central panel, lined with a scrap of silk, and with a silver-button embellished pale-green chiffon yo-yo on the front.

3) Log cabin patchwork tote, worked from the border strip of an old tablecloth with the pocket detail from an old pair of jeans as the central panel. Lined with a pale blue cotton mens shirt.

4) Square patchwork tote, worked from recycled denim jeans and the remnant of a pretty blue hula floral cotton, lined with vintage white linen and trimmed with a strip of vintage lace. I think this one is my favourite 🙂

And also … pure fun from a vintage piece of primula upholstery chintz (imagine a sofa in this – :shudder:) picked up with a log cabin border of old khaki drill cargo pants … the lining is a pea-green linen tablecloth.

Raspberries and cream, anyone? Square patchwork from a pair of pale fawn combats and a vintage floral pillowcase … with enough of the pillowcase left to line the inside, too. A strip of vintage edging lace made a cute trim for it, too. Notice the handles? They’re from the hems of the trousers ….

And finally … Chocolate Candy square patchwork … pink corduroy from a pair of old girls jeans, combined with a deep chocolate vintage upholstery fabric with a big, bold cream floral pattern in it. The lining is an old cotton voile I had in stash with an ivy leaf print on it … and the trim was a stash-busting result and just makes it fantastically feminine and totally fun. On second thoughts, maybe this one is my favourite ….
