Baby Keepsake Quilt

Over the holidays, I was asked to create a baby keepsake quilt …. cot-bed size, with the child’s name and date of birth embroidered on the central panel.

This time, I’m working with fabrics I have sourced, rather than using old baby clothes to make the quilt …. a lovely mixture of cottons prints, mostly old pillowcases but with some vintage cotton prints mixed in.

I’ve had this vintage tray cloth, with the little bird girl at each side, and a quilt for a baby girl seemed like the perfect place to use it …. cut in half, one half at each of the top and bottom of the quilt.

And with the name and date of birth hand-embroidered onto a piece of plain linen in the centre …. I used the hand-dyed chameleon threads perle 8 in antique rose.

I used super-soft and eco-friendly ‘Quilters Dream Orient‘ batting,  natural hemp fleece for the backing …. and very simple quilting ‘in the ditch’.

It’s so pretty! (If I do say so myself 😉 ). It’s such a pleasure to create something so special and unique for a special and unique little person.
